The Burmese cat was recognized as a distinct cat breed by the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) in the year 1936. This type of domesticated cat is broken down into two types- the American Burmese and the British Burmese. The Burmese cat was breed with Siamese cats and that is why they have such a unique look to them that Is all their own. To have a Burmese kitten or Burmese cat is a treat indeed as these are loving and sociable pets who are friendly and very smart. Burmese cats are very vocal in the same way that Siamese cats are and they tend top always let their owners know what they are feeling and what they need.
Burmese cats started out being only a brown or sable color but selective breeding has caused them to be born in a multitude of different colors. Due to the breeding with the Siamese species, the original eye color for Burmese cats was yellow but thanks to the Siamese Influence many modern Burmese cats sport green or blue eyes. One of the well-known crosses that have taken place between the Burmese species of cat and the Siamese is the Tonkinese cat.
Burmese cat breeders raise these unique types of pets and then put the Burmese cats up for sale. The Burmese kittens are very hard to resist. The Burmese cat is a foreign shorthair with a glossy coat that is satiny in texture. The British Burmese cat is Oriental like in its shape while the American Burmese cat has a more sturdy and solid build. While Burmese cats have some health issues the true picture of the Burmese cat is that it tends to live longer than most other types of pedigree cats, with a life span as long as 16 to 18 years.
