Many people still put cat collars on their cats fro this purpose however they have been shown to not be as effective as more up to date flea medications such as Advantage, Frontline flea control or the program.

Cat collars designed for fleas are difficult to place on cats and many cats do not enjoy the feel of the flea collar around their neck. Flea cat collars can be a hazard to a cat that goes outdoors because if he gets himself caught on a tree branch in the woods he could be seriously injure and could choke to death. A cat collar could also be hazardous if the cat gets into a fight with another cat. Cat collars may kill off some fleas but they will only help kill the ones in the vicinity of the collar and will do next to nothing for the fleas that have affected the lower half of the cat’s body. As well kitten collars for fleas are not recommended for wee ones that are six months or younger. Many cats also do not like the smell of the collar when it is first placed around their neck.

Some cat owners go all out with fancy cat collars or leather cat collars and try to take their cat’s unique personality in mind when they choose an appropriate collar. A fancy cat collar might be a good choice fro a girl cat while your boy cat prefers a leather cat collar. Designer cat collars such as the Gucci cast collar are all the rage with movie stars and persons in the public eye but keep in mind that a cat collar does not have to be fancy or sparkling with diamonds to do what it is supposed to which is identify relevant information about your cat.
