Recently cat and dog owners have been glued to the news as reports of poisoned pet food have caused a terrible scare. To date 95 brands of cat food have been recalled and removed from shelves in stores in the United States and Canada. So far all of the cat and dog food that has been recalled is wet canned food or pouch style food consisting of 'cuts-and-gravy.' Authority has recalled some of its wet food but so far the Authority brand dry cat food is fine as is the Diamond brand cat food and the Prairie brand cat food.
A cat food brand review and cat food brand comparison should be done by every responsible cat owner and consumer before cat food brands are purchased. At first it was believed that wheat gluten was to blame for causing renal failure in a number of cats throughout the US and Canada and then it was believed to be a form of rat poison that is also administered to cancer patients. As further studies on cat food brands were done a substance called melamine, which is a fertilizer, and also a substance used to manufacture plastics was discovered to be the ingredient in cat food brands that was making many cats sick.
Unfortunately a number of cats have already died due to the unhealthiness of many cat food brands. It has recently come to cat owners attention that many cat food brands are not manufactured in the United States or Canada but are outsourced to other countries such as China where the regulations are not as strict as they are in north America. It is the American Association of Feed Control Officers (AAFCO) that polices the pet food industry and is now under fire for the deaths of a number of beloved family pets.
