Cat Rescue

A cat rescue is a place where stray cats and/or cats that owners can no longer keep are brought and they are housed there until they are adopted into new homes. Some cat rescues also have a foster plan in place for their cats. Sadly some cat rescues eventually euthanize the cats they are unable to find homes for, which is most often the older cats, while other cat rescues have a “no-kill” policy in place and do everything in their power to find good, loving adoptive homes for their cats.

A cat rescue is interested in saving the lives of as many cats as possible. Many take in domesticated as well as feral cats and many cities have put into place a “Trap-Neuter-Return” (TNR) to help save alley cats and to make sure they are vaccinated and neutered and domesticated where that is possible. Many are also treated for injuries. Some feral cats are able to be adopted while others are released back into the streets but are in much better shape then they were when they were first found.

Often a cat rescue network will be created by the humane society in a region and it will form a partnership with animal welfare organizations to bring necessary health and medical services to homeless cats and to work to secure them new homes with responsible owners. Rescue cats are often rewarded with the love and affection of people who can give them what they need. A cat rescue also takes intro consideration a kitten rescue as well so the babies are not forgotten about either.

Often cat rescues do not concentrate on one breed but help any and all cats that need rescue. However if the need is there some cat rescues will help individual breeds such as the Devon Rex cat rescue, the Siamese cat rescue, the Ragdoll cat rescue, the Burmese cat rescue, the Persian cat rescue, the Maine Coon cat rescue and the purebred cat rescue. One example of a cat rescue is the one located in Michigan that rescues hundreds of cats every year from death on the streets.

House cats and feral cats are not the only type of cats that a cat rescue is created for. The Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida is one of the largest sanctuaries the world over for wild cats such as lions, tigers, cougars, caracals, sand cats, and leopards etc. This non-profit organization houses the most species of exotic cats compared to any other location of its kind in the world.
