One of the oldest breeds of cat known to man is the Persian cat, which originates from Iran or what was once called Persia (thus the name Persian). In the UK the Persian cat is referred to as the "Persian Longhair" or the "Longhair." Some breeds of Persian are referred to as being "Chinchillas. A Persian cat that is not registered or part of an established pedigree is considered to be a domestic longhair cat. The Persian cat has been interbred with Angora cats as far back as the 19th century, which makes the exact origin of the breed unknown. An Italian traveler named Pietro Della Valle is credited with the European debut of the Persian cat.
A Persian cat that is worthy of being shown has an appearance that includes a very long, luxurious thick, glossy coat, shorter legs, a head that is wide with ears that are set far apart and big eyes and a muzzle that is extremely foreshortened. In the beginning the Persian cat had a short muzzle but as time has gone by but it has become more exaggerated. A common cat health Persian problem is trouble with breathing and sinus problems. This is especially the case with the North American Persian that has a head type that is classified as being brachycelphalic. This is one of the major problems with Persian cat health.
Persian kittens are born with a variety markings and colors which include such ones as blue, tabby, pointed and tortoiseshell. It is the Persian cats and kittens with points that are called Colorpoint Persians in European countries while in the United States they are called Himalayan cats. So for example Persian cats in the UK would be Colorpoint Persians while in NC they would be classified as Himalayans.
The Blue Colorpoint Persian is particularly lovely but so is the white Persian cat, the Persian silver shaded, the orange Persian and the Persian chinchilla. There is also the Persian calico and Persian silver which are enough to make any Persian cat breeder proud. Black and white Persian kittens are not terribly common but are unique when they come into the world this way. If you are searching for Persian cats for sale check over the Internet and this also works for searching for Persian cat names. Another option is to look at shelters in your own community and also to check in with your local animal humane society.
